Remember Me by Chelsea Bobulski was a riveting book that beautifully blends the rivets of time to create a haunting atmosphere set against the backdrop of the Windsor Grand Hotel. Throught this work, Bobulski captures the essence of star crossed souls and the transcendent nature of fate.
Remember Me was a gothic mystery that reforms itself into a suspenseful thriller with an air of a Jane Eyre-esque romance. At the beginning, Lea takes us to the front steps of Windsor Grand Hotel in 1907 where a sense of foreboding is shadowed by a forced smile. About a hundred years later, Nell echoes through Lea's steps where the same trepidations envelope Nell. Little do they know that their foreboding is merely the start of the hotel's curse...one that reaches beyond the depths of time.
To me, their dual narrative resembled a ballet dance of sorts where the two young women forged their own memorable moments on the stage and gracefully paralleled each other's journey. As a reader I found myself immersed with the haunted eyes of the Windsor Grand Hotel and the sinister skulls that smiled eerily at Nell and Lea from the shadows. Throughout Remember Me, Bobulski emphasizes the importance of time through Nell and Lea voices that allows readers to understand where the spirit of their characters derive from and obtain clues as to what course their spiraling curse will take.
There are certain books that I like to dub as a midnight reads. It's where a book engrosses me to read it late into the evening hours until the completion of the journey. Remember Me solidly earned a place as a midnight read for it is a book that takes you into the folds of time where corridors lead you to unexpected truths and the portraits on the wall will pull at the distant strings of remembrance.
